10 things every wedding website should have
Not all wedding websites are created equal. Some have too little — guests still end up calling your mom for directions. Others have so much that nobody reads it. Here's the sweet spot: the 10 things that actually matter.
1. Your names and wedding date
Obvious, but make it beautiful. This is the first thing guests see. A well-designed header with your names and the date sets the whole tone of your day before they've even read anything.
2. Venue details — with a map link
The full address, a Google Maps link, and parking notes. South African venues are often on wine farms or game reserves with tricky signage. Don't make your guests figure it out on the day.
3. The full programme for the day
What time does the ceremony start? When does the reception begin? Is there a cocktail hour? Guests want to know how to plan their day — especially those coming from out of town who need to know when they can safely leave.
4. RSVP form
A simple online RSVP is a game-changer. No WhatsApp threads, no chasing people for responses — they fill in the form and you get a notification. Include a field for dietary requirements so you can hand that list straight to the caterer.
5. Your love story
A short version of how you met. This is guests' favourite part — especially the ones who don't know both of you well. Keep it warm and honest, not a LinkedIn bio.
6. Dress code
Be specific. "Smart casual" means something different to everyone. Say "cocktail dresses and suits" or "floral dresses encouraged, no jeans." Your guests want to get it right — help them.
7. Accommodation options
If you have guests coming from other cities or provinces, include 2–3 nearby accommodation options at different price points. You don't need to negotiate group rates — just give them somewhere to start.
8. Gift registry or bank details
Put this on the website, not in the invitation. It keeps the invite feeling elegant and gives guests a place to find this information when they actually need it — usually about a week before the wedding.
9. Wedding party
A brief intro to your bridesmaids, groomsmen and immediate family helps guests put faces to names and gives your wedding party a lovely moment of recognition.
10. A countdown
This one surprises people, but guests genuinely love a live countdown to the wedding day. It builds excitement every time they check the site and reminds them it's real and it's coming.
All 10 of these are included in every EternalVows template. See what they look like in a live preview — no sign-up needed to browse.
